New House

May 13, 2009

I closed on my house Friday and moved into it this Saturday. It’s a brand new home! I love knowing that nobody else has lived in it.

The moving went pretty smooth, but it was unbearably hot and it took 5.5 hours! I really do have way too much stuff. I should have a garage sale this summer, but every time I think about having to deal with strangers haggling over my stuff and touching my things it makes me sick. I just don’t know if I could do it. I’d rather donate my stuff than go through that.

Kristi, her mother and the baby were here this weekend, so we spent a lot of time running around. I didn’t have much time for unpacking, so I’ve been doing that after work this week. It’s an eternal task. It’s also very strange because I’m so used to my things having been in the same spot for 5 years that it’s hard for my mind to decide where to put them in the new place.

Kristi and her mother bought me a wine refrigerator and a BBQ grill as a housewarming present. The wine refrigerator has been awesome because I don’t get my real refrigerator delivered until today and so we’ve been putting bottle water in it instead of wine.

I’m SO excited that my refrigerator is getting delivered today! It’s a beautiful white side-by-side unit from Maytag. All of my other appliances are white Maytag as well. I’m not a big fan of stainless steel. I love the way it looks in other people’s homes, but I don’t want it. I LOVE white and I love not having to wipe my fingerprints off it my white appliances.

Last night I watered my lawn, which was UBER boring. I need to set up a system of sprinklers, because I’m not doing that again. I didn’t want to do it last night either, but I realized that it probably hadn’t been water since Friday, or longer.

There are still a lot of things I need to buy for the house that I’m trying to do as I have time. I need window coverings, as I have temporary shades in right now. I need storage shelves for my garage, sprinklers, water hoses, and lots of other little things.

Once I get in and totally settled, I’ll start thinking about what colors to paint. I think it’ll be easier to decide what colors I want, after I decide what I’m comfortable with in the house and what furniture is going in which room.

Hopefully this weekend my garage door opener will get installed because I would love to be able to hide my ugly beat up truck in the garage… because it’s ugly and so it’ll stay cooler.

OK, break is over and I need to get back to work.
