I bought a house
Ok, so it’s been forevers since I’ve updated. It’s really because I normally update in the mornings, but I’ve been so tired that I haven’t been getting up early enough to get to work early enough to update. Plus, it’s not like I ever really have anything new to report. It’s always the same, work all week, Rusty Spurs on Friday and Saturday nights, and then back to work.
That’s pretty much what has been going on. I did go to Mississippi for Easter, to see Kristi and my baby. We made an Easter basket for him and were going to hide eggs and do all that but we got busy and it was kind of chilly outside.
I helped them buy a Wii and set it up, and also helped them buy a new computer and set that up, including copying all of their files over from the old computer. It was a nice little 3 day vacation and very relaxing.
Days before that I bought a house. I guess that’s the biggest news I’ve had in a long time. Well, I haven’t officially bought it yet. I signed contracts and I close on the 8th of next month. Yays! So I’ve been really busy with all that stuff. I haven’t even started packing yet and that’s stressing me out a little bit. I like being overly prepared and I’m feeling very UNDER prepared right now.
It’s a cute house in South Austin and it has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. It reminds me a little of my apartment because of a few things like an arched doorway and the layout. I didn’t really look at a ton of houses and I had just decided a few days before I found this one that I was even going to buy a house… so I going from deciding to buy a house to closing on a house in just under 30 days. You can imagine how rushed and stressful that has been.
I’m very excited about the location of this place. It’s only 6.5 miles from my office, compared to the 14.6 miles away that I am now. It’s going to take me less than half the amount of time to get to work now! I’m so excited about the time I’m saving AND the gas! It’s also only 10 miles from downtown!
The best part is that I’m right next to a HUGE shopping center that has just about everything I could ever possibly need. Right now the only things I have near my apartment are Target and HEB. It’s about a 15 to 20 minute drive to get to anything else. There are only a handful of places to eat near my apartment, but there are about 30 in walking distance from my new house!
The house has a very small backyard, which is awesome because I’m not into mowing. I wanted just enough of a backyard to do a little gardening and to have BBQs, and that’s just what I have.
The closer it gets to closing, the more excited I’m getting. I’m also excited because Kristi, the baby, and her mother are coming up that weekend to help me get stuff settled in. Then they are coming back the next weekend to help some more.
Brenna is coming this weekend to hang out, so I’ll get to show her my house. I might make her do some shopping with me, to help me find stuff for the house. That’s been all I’ve been able to think about; buying stuff for the house. I’ve been shopping online for light fixtures, garden things and trying to figure out what I’m going to paint.
Just recently it occurred to me that I’m going to be living in this big house by myself. The two spare bedrooms are on the opposite side of the house and that weirds me out thinking people could break in and live over there and I would never know it. So I’m thinking about getting an alarm system. The house is already wired for it; all I have to do it get the system connected and pay the monthly fee.
I’m pretty sure I’m going to do it. I would feel much better knowing that my house is armed when I’m not there. Plus, Kristi and the baby may come live with me in a year and it would be nice to have that door chime thing so that if the kid ever opens a door or window the alarm would beep.
That’s pretty much all that’s been happening in my life.
