It was a Xochi weekend

March 24, 2009

As I was sitting at work on Friday I was wondering what I was going to get myself into that night. The Rusty Spur was still in the closet and acting straight all week, so I couldn’t go dancing. What else is there?!?!?!? Ok, sure, there are plenty of other things to do, but nothing I enjoy as much.

I messaged Devin to see what he was up to and we made plans to hang out and go to Charlie’s. Yes, Charlie’s… the place to which I keep swearing that I won’t go back, but David was going to be at Charlie’s as well, and you know… safety in numbers.

I once heard from a friend about this fight that broke out at Charlie’s where a guy (or was it a drag queen?) got his cheek sliced open in a fight. I’ve never seen anything really violent happen there, but one time this guy did follow me to my car as I was leaving and proceeded to tell me (through his friend who was translating his Spanish) that he liked me, knew where I lived and worked, and then described in detail several outfits I had worn that he really liked. YIKES!

Oh and once someone tried to run me over in the alley, but that was kind of my fault because I started dating his ex the day they broke up. Normally I wouldn’t do that, but this guy was REAL cute and I couldn’t risk letting him get snatched up by someone else. I should have known he was going to be trouble though. He had gunshot and stab wounds all over his chest and back… but then that’s kind of what made him so sexy.

Anyway… so we went to Charlie’s and I ran into a couple of people I knew. Unfortunately I also lost my debit card somehow. I think it happened while I was driving to the club. I was talking on the phone to Kristi (I can’t talk on the phone and do anything else) and I think when I stopped to get money out of the ATM I left my card in the machine. I was so worried that I may have dropped it somewhere that I just decided to call and have it cancelled. So now I have no easy access to my money. Sadness.

I actually had a decent time at Charlie’s. David and I walked around and I was flirting with this cute white guy (yes WHITE) and he was flirting back. Something about him was just a bit off though, so I didn’t go talk to him. I later found out from David that after I left the guy went to talk to him about me and during the course of this conversation the guy’s BOYFRIEND of almost a year showed up. The guy’s boyfriend also happened to be someone David knew. SHAMEFUL! And see, this is the kind of guy I’m always attracted to. It’s like I have some kind of LOSER homing device.

Devin and I left Charlie’s and walked down to the new bar, Kiss and Fly, which is in the old Vicci location. They haven’t remodeled at all. It still looks exactly like Vicci in there. I give this bar six months and then I’m sure it’ll close down. This town isn’t big enough to support a gay bar that big. It’s too big and there will never be enough people in there to make it look busy on a consistent basis. I also hear they were going to start charging cover, and who’s going to go there and pay when they can walk across the street to OCH or Rain for free? NOT I.

I ran into a bunch of people, some I’ve dated, and some just friends; Eli, Shane, Noe, Justin P, Desi and some others that don’t deserve mentioning. The music was ok, but even for its first night being open, the dance floor never got packed and it really wasn’t all that busy. Let the countdown begin!

Saturday I got up and had a bunch of errands to do, like getting my oil changed and grocery shopping. I always get my oil changed at Wal-Mart and I find it so hard to kill 40 minutes in there. I cannot find enough things to entertain me in that store. I even tried buying some of my groceries in there to kill time, but I couldn’t! I don’t know why people love the Wal-Mart so much. I could EASILY kill 40 minutes in Target, but the downside to that is that it’s nearly impossible to leave Target without spending money.

Later in the day I drove downtown to meet up with Xochi for a happy hour. I stopped by Whole Foods first to get some Ginger Snap cookies. They have the most amazing Ginger Snaps there! I have been craving them since January and every time I buy any cookie from somewhere else I am disappointed.

Xochi and I met up at Freddie’s and had a late lunch/early dinner while watching her friend’s band. I think they are called the Bonneville County Pine Box or something like that. They were pretty good. She likes them so much that after they finished their show at Freddie’s we followed them over to South Congress and watched them again at a new place called The Snack Bar.

Roger met up with us at The Snack Bar and he took some pics of Xochi and I. There is one that is freaking hilarious. Xoch and I were unaware he was taking pics, and in this one pick we not only look super bored, we also look like we hate each other. I’m hoping he’ll send it to me so I can print it and put it on my desk.

I had agreed to go to these happy hours with her if she would go dancing at Midnight Rodeo with me Saturday night. I had been dying to go two-stepping all week and had made this pact with her while I was at the Spur Thursday night and realized that I wasn’t going to get to dance there on the weekend.

So later later that night we went to the Midnight Rodeo and it was a train wreck. I had forgotten how bad it is there. The women are trashy and the music is bad. As we were parking we saw a girl walking in wearing a white wife beater t-shirt, camouflage shorts and sneakers. Now I’ve worn some crazy things out, but I would hope that I at least look like I put more effort into my choices than this girl did.

The music was AWFUL. The DJ had about a 9 song rotation, which consisted of 4 hip/hop songs in a row, then 3 slow country songs, then 2 kind of quick country songs. I only enjoy dancing to the fast songs, so I was getting pretty bored. Even the fast songs weren’t all that great. Oh, and the dance floor was not slick and the A/C was almost non-existent. A dry dance floor a no A/C is already a recipe for a sweaty disaster.

We got bored quick and left after about an hour. LAME. I did have fun with Xochi during the few songs we danced, and we had a great time people watching. There was a guy there that looked exactly like Tim McGraw and I so wanted my pic taken with him so that I could show people what a Tim McGraw look-a-like is supposed to look like. You could tell this guy grew his sideburns and shaved his goatee to look just like Tim. He even had his hat shaped just like Tim’s. My hat, my beard, and my face are so different from Tim. Tim wears a felt hat and I can’t imagine him ever wearing any hat with a Swarovski Crystal hat band.

Sunday I got up early and started doing laundry. I was trying to convince myself to finish laundry so that I could spend Monday evening (my normal laundry night) cleaning my apartment. I just barely had time to finish before I had to rush off to pick up Xochi to go to Tonia’s 50th birthday party in Wimberley.

The party was pretty fun and it was SO beautiful out at her Art Studio/Gallery/Store thingy. We stayed out there for about three hours, relaxing and mingling. It was so pretty out there that I so badly wanted to be laid out in a hammock taking a nap.

Sunday night I didn’t do too much. I just caught up on my TiVo. I’m thinking I may have to cancel my Netflix, or cut down to one movie a month. I never have time to watch them anymore because TiVo has taken over my life.

Last night I cleaned the majority of my apartment. I convinced myself earlier in the day that I would just do the kitchen. I kind of new that if I started on the kitchen I would do more, but I left myself open to just that. All I have to do tonight is dust the bedroom, vacuum the carpets, and mop the kitchen. Woot woot! My knees hurt right now though from hand scrubbing the bathroom floors. It had been a long time since I cleaned them that well.

I don’t have much going on this week. I’m hoping to hang out with my buddy Jeffery. I haven’t seen him in forevers. Oh and just FYI, Randy R is a hater, sippin’ on Hatorade and being mean to nice folks like me. If you see him out kick him.
