Frijoles Gelatina

February 2, 2009

Friday I was a good boy and stayed home. I had a bunch of stuff on TiVo to watch and it drives me crazy when the shows start to build up, so I relaxed at home and cleaned it all out. I was also SUPER tired, so it was nice being able to get to bed early.

What wasn’t nice was waking up early on Saturday and realizing I had nothing to do. Luckily Xochi called me and we spent the day hanging out. We went to lunch, to look at a really nice gym in Westlake, went to Target, and to the mall.

I went to Macy’s and actually didn’t have a horrible experience. I know Jeffery was worried about seeing me on the news for stabbing someone in there. I had two gift certificates and a gift card to use there and I was having the hardest time finding something to buy. I ended up buying some really cute new shoes. They are mostly white with some fun colored stripes.

I also got some great socks to wear when I go out dancing. I have to wear longer socks when I dance so that the sides of my boots don’t scrape against my legs and cut them up, which has happened in the past. The problem with the longer socks is that they slide down and bunch up in the tip of my shoe, and I HATE that. So I bought some over the calf socks! Yays! Now I’m prepared for being an old man. If I only had a yard, I could put on my black over the calf socks, boxers and wife beater t-shirt and go mow the lawn.

I watched “House Bunny” Saturday evening. That was a really cute movie and Anna Faris is hilarious. It was a lot better than I had expected and actually kind of sweet. I was also not annoyed with Rumor Willis, like I thought I would be.

Saturday night I went out to the Rusty Spur. I had a good time dancing and hanging out with my friends. It was funny to see some of the people that had come out dressed up after being at Carnaval… so basically they were half naked. Two of them were dressed up as dirty cowboys, wearing leather vests (no shirts) and leather chaps with white boxer briefs. There were a bunch of people with them dressed as cavemen and women. I was wondering how those outfits fit with the Brazilian Carnaval theme, but I guess the theme is really just “dirty and almost naked” so whatever.

The one year that I went to Carnaval we all dressed as Mambo dancers, and we didn’t show a lot of skin. And yes it is spelled “Carnaval” and not “Carnival.” I saw someone posted a missed connection on Craigslist looking for someone from Carnaval and they spelled it “Carnivalle.” Seriously? I love spelling and grammatical errors in missed connections ads. I’m not the best writer ever, but MY GOD some of the people that post ads could not possibly have graduated high school… or must have been good in sports so nobody really cared about their grades.

Sunday I woke up really late and went grocery shopping, which was a mistake because EVERYONE was grocery shopping right before the Super Bowl. It was insane in there and you know I don’t have the patience for stupid people. I have loads and loads of patience, but put me in a crowd of stupid people and it’s gone REAL fast. I was ready to start ramming people with my cart.

I spent the rest of the day talking on the phone with Kristi. I think we talked for over 3 hours. I also watched two movies, “The Duchess” and “Hero.” “The Duchess” was REALLY good and sad. I LOVE Keira Knightley and will watch just about anything that she’s in. I also LOVE Dominic Cooper. “Hero” is a Chinese movie and it was just ok. It has some fun sword fighting scenes, but the plot of the movie just didn’t really pull me in. It was pretty to watch though.

I’m eating Jelly Beans right now and just noticed on the bag that it says in Spanish “Caramelo Suave Confitado.” That sounds super complicado, and I guess it’s so much as Jelly Bean in Spanish as it is a description of the candy: Smooth Caramel Confection? If you literally translated Jelly Beans it would be Frijoles Gelatina, which kind of sounds a little better. Consider yourself SCHOOLED.

This morning my bosses hired me an assistant. Woot woot!
