Obamanos!
Went to an election party last night at Eric’s and I’m so glad it got to be a fun party instead of a pity party. I was pretty confident that Obama would win, but still a little scared the evil right wing would find a way to cheat the election again.
It was fun hanging out with Javi/Tom, Shannon, Eric, Taylor, and Reno. There were other people there, but I didn’t know them and I’m not really taking on new people right now.
I stayed at the party long enough to hear Obama be declared the winner, and then listened to McCain’s concession speech on the radio as I drove home.
I went to bed with this horrible feeling that I was going to wake up and find out that Obama had been assassinated during the night. I really fear for that man’s life. I hope he has some top notch Secret Service peeps.
I’m very excited about the future now and I really feel like things are going to get better. I just don’t think I could have handled another four years of Republicans.
I really feel like people only vote Republican for two reasons (I’ll spare them from naming stupidity as a reason); because they have money or because they have GOD.
I just can’t see voting for a party that discriminates in the name of God. Granted, there are plenty of other reasons not to vote Republican, but hate is the main one for me.
This morning I was reading quotes from international leaders congratulating Obama. This one from the Zimbabwe opposition party Movement for Democratic Change really struck me.
“Obama’s victory will hopefully usher in a departure from the politics of polarization, fear, unilateralism and arrogance that has defined the Bush doctrine in the last eight years. Indeed, we hope that Obama will open new avenues of dialogue of new interaction based on respect of all countries irrespective of the size of national budgets or the number of fighter jets owned.”
That could not have been better said. I’ll be so glad when that jackass is out of office and the country can begin healing itself and mending international relations. I’m tired of being embarrassed to be an American.
And while the majority of the country got it right voting for Obama, three states (California, Florida and Arizona) got one other thing completely WRONG. They all voted against Gay Marriage. Idiots.
I just don’t understand why people are so against gay marriage when there are so many more important issues to fight. Protecting the “sanctity of marriage” from the Gays is ridiculous. If these politicians and religious nuts are so interested in protecting the “sanctity of marriage” they should be fighting against spousal abuse and child abuse. They should try to pass laws to make adultery illegal and punishable.
But they would never do that because then they’d be pointing the finger at themselves and their own people, and you know they don’t want to do that. No, it’s so much easier to blame the Gays for everything.
It’s not about protecting the “sanctity of marriage,” it’s about putting someone else down so they can feel good. These people are so weak that they can’t see the good in life unless they have the evil to which they can compare.
I’m done ranting now.
