Jaba La Palapa

August 6, 2008

Hung out with Eric, Jamie, Adam, and Robert G last night. Eric and I met up first at La Palapa for drinks and dinner, followed later by Adam and Robert G. The food was pretty good and they had a decent Mole sauce. The drinks were good too, but I have to object at being charged $2.95 extra for a sangria floater for my margarita. COME ON!

Towards the end of the meal someone asked what “Palapa” meant and Eric said that it meant “hut.” I asked the waitress if she spoke Spanish and she said yes, so I asked her what it meant and she was all, “Oh I don’t know. People always ask me that.” So I said, “Well then you don’t speak SPANISH!” Come on! How do you, as a Latina, work in a Mexican restaurant and supposedly speak Spanish and not know what the name of the place means? Especially if people are asking you all the time!

So Robert G and I did “dial a Mexican” and raced to see who could get the answer first. I ended up having to dial a Chilean and she said it meant like a straw umbrella, then called my Mexican, Paco, and he said an umbrella like at the beach, and then my other Mexican Gina called me back and she said a straw umbrella. I got three answers before Robert got even one.

Eric continue to insist that it means “Hut” and then said, “It means HUT, like as in Jaba la Palapa!” You know Eric has always got to make some kind of Star Wars reference (aka Jaba the Hut). We cracked up so much over that. We were still cracking up over it like 3 hours later.

After dinner we went to Eric’s to play games and hang out. Eric and I played against Robert and Adam in pool a couple of times, but Eric and I kept losing because I kept hitting the eight ball in. Seriously, the eight ball shouldn’t even be on the table until the end. It’s hard enough for me not to hit the cue ball in the pocket every turn! Normally I just cheat at pool and knock balls in when nobody’s looking, but I was very behaved last night.

Jamie finally showed up around 9 and we commenced with our Air Hockey Tournament, which was quit a sad Tournament because we didn’t even all play. But the point was to beat Jamie and that I did. I also beat Adam. Woot woot! The straights (Jamie and Adam) were not victorious at all.

After that, we just hung out on the patio talking about everything and even some gossip that we got from Jamie regarding a past relationship with a certain pretty famous actor.

I didn’t end up getting home until after midnight and so I’m a little bit of the tired today. Not cranky yet, but maybe that will come later.
