Hephaistion
Last night I finished watching Alexander, which was really not that great of a movie. Alexander (Colin Farrell) left me yealling at the screen, “Are you SERIOUSLY crying AGAIN!” The second half of the movie he suddenly becomes disturbed and everything makes him cry. It didn’t seem right.
Angelina Jolie was pretty good in it. It’s hard to tell if her part was meant to be written as evil, manipulative, and overly sexy, or if that’s just what she brought to the role. The only thing that bothered me about her was her accent. Was she Russian? In fact there were several people in the movie that I swear had Irish accents.
Jared Leto gave an awesome performance as Hephaistion, Alexander’s lover(?). It’s amazing how he was able to convey his undying love and devotion in just the way he looked at Alexander. If it wasn’t for him, I would have totally lost interest in the movie. I think, in my mind, I changed the movie to be a love story between Hephaistion and Alexander, which actually would have made for a much more interesting movie.
After watching that movie, I put in Todo Sobre Mi Madre (All About My Mother). That is now my favorite Pedro Almodovar movie, because it was amazing! He gives a very interesting look into the lives of prostitutes, transexuals, lesbians, and a nun. The best thing about it is that he doesn’t really make any of them out to be bad people, nobody is judged for the way they live their lives.
I’m thrilled today is Friday. I have no idea what I’m going to do tonight, but at least I know I don’t have to work tomorrow!
